MARCH 2008
Before we get into the ‘nitty gritty’ of what this Season holds for our Riders we want you all to know that we are genuinely very grateful for your support of and dedication to Quad Racing as a sport. To allow this fantastically exciting activity to continue in Scotland we are planning a spectacular and constantly improving year of events. If you haven’t already done so please click on our events page for updates on our tracks for this year.
We are sure you will agree that the tracks we have chosen so far (there are only two to confirm) are diverse enough to test all classes and ages. We understand that for some of you it is difficult to travel to the further reaching locations however the locations we have available are some of the best tracks in the UK in the most beautiful settings. We continuously strive to support new tracks and are always searching for alternate places to race.
Transponder Update
Our 2008 Race Season is fast approaching and QRS are planning for it to be the very best year yet. The most exciting part of this year will be our timing equipment which as you know we have tried and tested and are desperate to officially launch into our sport. We need you to understand why this is so important:
We understand the cost is high, especially with more than 1 rider in a family however please be aware that the SACU Standing Rules and Regulations state that National Championships must be run with timing equipment – this is absolutely the only way forward for our sport.
If you choose not to purchase a transponder we cannot guarantee that QRS will have enough transponders to hire at each race – this may lead to your laps not being scored accurately if at all. To be involved in the QRS and SACU Quad Racing Championship you simply must have a transponder unless you are racing in either of the 50cc classes.
Please be very aware that if you arrive at Round 1 without a transponder you may loose all your points from that round. Don’t let that happen to you.
For those of you who have still not purchased your transponders please make sure you download an entry form from the download page on our web site:
We will have a very small number of transponders available to hire however these will be charge at £30 per day which will effectively be £240 across th whole season – a transponder costs £150. It makes no sense to arrive at a race with a plan to hire a transponder and risk not being scored or wasting your money.
Transponder Order Deadlines
You must have your order and payment into our office by Monday 17th March not 20th March as previously advised to allow the supplier to deliver your equipment to us in time for Round 1.
Your transponder will be available for your collection at Round 1 when you sign onto race. They will be fully charged in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions before they are handed over so please don’t worry about the battery power.
We apologize to those of you who ordered your transponders months ago – in order to again the discount we have negotiated we must place a large order for 100 units at one time.
If you completed a transponder request form but have not paid for your transponder before 17th March – do not expect it t be waiting for you at Round 1.
We will only release transponders to those who have paid for them and their funds have cleared in our bank account.
If you have any questions or comments about transponders please e mail us at:
Finally – if you already own a transponder it must be an AMB MX transponder to be compatible with our equipment – do not be disappointed if your transponder is not suitable and you are not scored.
If you do have a transponder please let us know the transponder number on your race entry form.
Round 1 – April 6th
We are delighted to be racing at Cardenden in Fife for our first round this year.
For directions please consult the links on our web site.
We urge you to have your entries in by Monday 31st March without fail.
We will not accept late entries under any circumstances.
Entry forms can be downloaded from our web site and should be posted to the usual address:
Quad Racing Scotland

EH10 7DS
You will notice on your entry form that the price for adult race entries has increased slightly – we have managed maintain the cost for youth riders. This increase in costs is entirely to allow the Club to pursue external support for Marshalling this year.
Please ensure you arrive early to allow time for qualifying rounds to take place where appropriate and keep checking our web site for updates as the racing gets closer.
Race Licence
Please make sure you have applied for your race licence to the SACU with plenty of time to spare. We must see all race licenses when riders sign on at the start of every round.
If you have any questions or problems with your licence please e mail us.
Race Numbers
If you are racing in the same class as you raced last year you may keep your race number. If you choose to change race class or are new to QRS please consult the results page on our web site to determine which race numbers were used last year in your class and pick an alternate.
If in doubt please consult us via e mail.
50cc Standard Class and 50cc Auto Open Class
Please be aware that all quads in the 50cc Standard class must not be modified in any way whatsoever. Do not put your child’s race success at risk by altering their bike beyond what the rules allow.
If any modifications are made to your quad it must be entered into the 50cc Auto Open class but the engine must remain a maximum of 50cc.
Youths are only eligible in this class if they have a full year’s race experience.
If in doubt don’t be afraid to ask us – don’t let your child down.
Rules and Regulations
The SACU Rules and Regulations are available to download from our web site and you will be sent an SACU handbook when you receive your race licence.
Please ensure you read the contents of both to ensure you abide by every rule.
Unacceptable Behaviour
If any rider, parent or member of a rider’s party are found by the Clerk of the Course on a race day to be behaving unacceptably or inappropriately they will be asked to leave the track immediately. All members of their family and friends will also be asked to leave even if this includes other riders.
QRS will not tolerate abuse of any kind – please be warned we will make an example of anyone we feel is not behaving within the appropriate guidelines.
Membership
If you wish your points to be calculated in the Quad Racing Scotland championship you must become a member of QRS – you can download a membership form from our web site.
The SACU Quad Racing Championship may be entered by every rider regardless of their membership to QRS.
The deadline for membership and therefore eligibility to the QRS Championship is 8am on 6th April. Please be very aware that if you join QRS after this date you will not gain points for our Championship only the SACU Championship.
For the avoidance of all doubt the date your membership form is received at our office or handed to a QRS official is the date you become a member of QRS – this date will be printed on your membership card.
New Marshalling Format
Before the new race season gets underway we wanted to take this opportunity to let all riders know how the marshalling will be carried out this season.
This year, when asked to provide a marshal, it will be for the full day, rather than morning or afternoon slots. This will cut down on the amount of times a rider will have to supply a marshal.
If you are asked to provide a marshal this season then you MUST arrange to have someone over the age of 16 available to marshal for you. If you turn up without a marshal when requested to do so, then you will not be allowed to race. There will be no exceptions or excuses. We are incredibly keen to ensure the smooth and efficient running of race meetings this year. We will be imposing a zero tolerance. NO MARSHAL NO RACE.
Last year we received some outside help and we are endeavoring to arrange this again for as many rounds as possible this year. However with this help we may still need to ask people to provide a marshal to make racing as safe as possible.
The final change to be made this year is to ask all marshals to be at there post 10 minutes before racing commences after the lunch break. This is to ensure that the racing can begin promptly and we are not running around looking for marshals. If you fail to return to your post in the afternoon. Your rider will be not be permitted to race.
We hope all members will appreciate why we are doing this and support us. We wish to run efficient, safe race meetings.
Downloads – a paperless QRS
We are trying to reduce the amount of paper generated by QRS and as such will no longer be posting lengthy newsletters to all our members. You will not miss any vital information if you simply subscribe to our web site – we will send you emails every time you need to know anything.
You can download everything you need to race and join QRS from our website.
We are happy to accept completed entry forms within the stipulated deadline and membership forms via email providing they are followed up with payment by post.
Please send us an S.A.E should you wish for us to print anything from our web site for you – state clearly in your correspondence exactly what it is you need.
Cash
We still receive cash through the post despite asking you not to send cash , on numerous occasions recently riders have posted transponder payment as cash though the Royal Mail. This is a huge amount of money to potentially lose and QRS cannot be held responsible if any cash payments do go missing.
Please only send us cheques made payable to Quad Racing Scotland or Postal Orders for your own security.
Merchandise
We will have QRS merchandise available for sale at Round 1 however if you want to be sure to have yours before we sell out please look on the merchandise page on our web site and order via e mail or post. The most popular styles and colours are selling fast so don’t miss out.
Answer Phone
The QRS telephone is not manned 24 hours a day.
It is generally manned during office hours however if we are not available we will always return your call if you leave us a message.
We cannot help you if you don’t tell us how to contact you back so just leave us your name and telephone number and we will get back to you as soon as we can. The number is 0131 445 7868.
QRS - A non-profit making organization
We would like to remind you that unlike some other Quad racing clubs we are not profit making – every penny earned by QRS goes back into the Club. Our entire Committee is made up of volunteers who give their time and resources freely and willingly to support your Club.
This year we will be investing in further transponders to hire and of course ensuring that Quad Racing is as accessible as possible.
Thanks for taking the time to read this Newsletter – we hope it answers some of your queries and look forward to seeing you on April 6th.
